Hello, I have a 91 Explorer XL with 140,000 miles on it. It is completely stock except for the 30" tires. I want to modify it to have more pick up and speed. I was wondering what modifications should I do first that are something a novice mechanic can do?

3 EZ things that will instantly hop up performance.....Cone intake filter...(see main page)...exhaust, and a chip....all very easy to install, and when all 3 are done, performance increase is very noticeable. I have a 94 Explorer with Dynomax and the filter, the 30" All Terrains and 142,x.. miles and soon to have a chip...i am short on $$$$ though so that might be a whiole in coming. Another thing, since you have an older vehicle, with higher miles, try adding some Berryman's complete fuel system cleaner.....it will clear up the motor, and HELPS a ton if no one has helped your vehicle out in this area yet. Also this will clean your emmisions up...my check engine light would come on b/c of hi emmisions and when i added the Berrymans it stopped the next day...

Hey ward,
I got your problem solved. The air filter is your first step...If you go with the conical K&N youll have to make modifications...or you can go with the drop in K&N...i did the both...the cone is better. the second step is exhaust...from what i have read borla is the best hp wise... i have a flomaster, and i like it..third is the chip...contact superchips for the best one...
