What is the normal coolant temp range?

Does anybody have any experience with the normal coolant temperature range for a 4.0 V6?

I just recently bought a scan guage, and the first thing I discovered of course is that the stock temp guage is an idiot guage - always stays in the same spot over a wide temp range.

Today at 92 outside temp with a/c on mine averaged around 218 Deg F.

I'm just wondering what maybe the factory normal temp range is or what someone has experienced.

Mine gets to 208 F in heavy traffic, whereas on the highway its stays right at 200 F.

I know on my 95 Ford had an issue with the t-stat. I would stick open. Thew saide it was a comon issue. I an not sure about the newer X's. I just got an 05 but never cheched the live data on me reader.

Finally after replacing my new tstat (it was a new bad one) and putting in a new motorcraft tstat I fixed my overheating/underheating problem. With the new tstat, here is what I found:

For 50 to 70 degree weather, the temp will start out at the ambient outside temperature. After about a mile, the temp will climb to about 200, then over the next mile or so, it will cool down to 193, then up to about 197, then down to 193, then up to 195 and stay there if the driving speed is constant etc. So I guess the system is getting warmed up to temperature and then reaching a steady state. I'll have to wait til next summer to check what happens in hotter weather.

Wow those v6's run warm I don't think I've ever seen mine go over 195, and that was after basically hot lapping it at the drag strip. Mine usually climbs to 190 and stays there dropping to around 183 occasionally.

I have the scanguage also. My rig runs between 197-202 no matter what the temp outside.
