i am interested in lowering my explorer with the explorer express kit. does anyone have this or can comment on the ride of a lowered explorer?
i don't want to have a harsh ride so i will only do lower it if the ride isn't too rough. thanks.
I have my 99 sport lowered, with eldebrock performer shocks made for lowered explorers. With my stock crapstone tires, the ride was really bouncy. and hitting a big bump at high speeds was kinda dangerous. Now I have 17" wheels with michilen pilot ltx tires. They ride its really nice now. the rear end is still a little bouncy, but I htink that is because of the sports monoleaf setup. But basicly the truck is glued to the ground now. Bumps are obvioulsy a little harsher then stock, but not bad at all. Of course I am a 22 year old kind and dont mind it. My dad hates it ;-)
He is used to his benz S430. No comparison in ride there.
Hope I helped

I have my sport trac lowered w/ this kit and the Edels. Love the ride! I think it is much better than it was stock and it glues to the road now. Try it, you will love it. Get the right wheel and tire combo though!
I too was worried about a harsh ride after lowering. Used the Explorer Express kit w/Monroe shocks and 255-65-16 Goodyear HP tires and it rides better than stock.
Wished I'd a done it sooner.
Now if I could just afford some power to go with the ride...
I did by myself, it was no problem. It took a few hours, you just have to take your time and double check everything. I am by far no mechanic, but if you have some common sense its a piece of cake.

For $25.00 the garage put it the lowering blocks and for$300. the alignment shop did the alignment and put in the adjusters. Oh ya they also did the lower ball joints.
I think is was about $100 for the alignment and installation.
They are the camber adjusters. They come with the kit and are used to get the tires back in the correct position after lowering. Keeps tires from uneven wear.
Instructions tell you where they go but I gave them to the allignment shop and they put them in.
I have had the explorer express lowering kit on myy 96 for about 2 yrs. was a piece of cake install. I also have the edelbrocks.
with the lowering kit and my pirelli's and cobra r rims... i was totally blown away at how great it handles and corners.
I love the way is handles... only things I dont like is the rear is a little mushy from the stock rear springs and with loosening the front torsion bars its also a little mushy..but cornering makes up for it.
rides good but I am starting to get sick of the mush.. feels like i am driving my moms 92 caddy.
I am going to lift it next month- thats what i bought the truck for and was going to do til all the stupid lift companys kept telling me the lift would be out next month- then next month- and next month and 4 yrs later... oh no lift-... but reading through the posts I have decided to go 3" ranger body lift with torsion twist and add-a-leafs
well I have a 93 explorer sport lowered 4.5 inches in the front via lowered Ibeams-springs and 4 in the back via 3 inch blocks and 300 pounds of system its nice the front tires scrape inside the wells, and the back is stiff as a rock, but I love it.. its so much fun and it looks nice. I have pictures of it lowerd like 3.5 in the front and like 2.5 in the back at Dead Link Removed
PUR PONY, did your Limited come with the air suspension? Because I cant believe you've been able to lower your Explorer, and then now your lifting it! Plus being able to get those Edelbrock shocks, I've searched high and low for lifts AND shocks. Only lift I can come up with is the torsion twist and shackles. I havent bothered with lowering it, because the air suspension lowers it enough.
I have one of the first V-8 models offered .. the limited w/ the V-8 did not come with the air ride- only V-6's like my moms- she has the same explorer but 4.0 and she has air ride, but my dads 98 limited V-8 does have air ride also.
I lowered it using the torsion twist with rear blocks ( explorer express ) ... and now for the lifting,...I have the torsion twist w/ proc comp add-a-leaf and shackles... I also am going to install a 98 ranger 3" body lift. I have been reading now that I could install the 99+ suspension lift and modify it but not for now- im just going to go body lift and see how that works... maybe someday a nice superlift...
