the plunger inside no longer has enough force to open and was wondering if there is a simple fix other than goin to the junkyard and picking out a better looking one

That's your IAC valve. I'd order a new one from Fast Parts Network.

If you can't wait for it to be shipped you could pick one up locally, I think they're under $30 new, I wouldn't buy a used one.

You can also try to clean it with some carb cleaner.
