Hey guys

This box as been around the house for a number of years usually hooked up for patio usage during the summer. I have been considering the idea of adding a sub to my truck but do have a cash problem. Took one of the speakers off to see what was inside, it is a 2 sided box with a board in the middle. With tweeters, sound port and a larger speaker. Anyone have an idea what type of speaker this would be? I looked up the magnum speaker number FBN-8T but couldn't find anything. Could I replace those speakers with subs?

It doesn't look deep enough for shallow mount subs let alone regular subs.

It looks like just a box, and yes you can replace them with subs (IF they fit... Just as Dan said). Its has a piece in the middle especially made for speakers/subs to distribute the sound evenly

The bottom is about 6in deep, pics to follow

Too shallow to put subs :/ Maybe some nice speakers but not subs. Dont get me wrong, speakers are great, but subs add the bass.

Now that I think about it, that box was probably a home-stereo box to begin with since it has tweeters in it too

Thanks for the response guys, I didn't really think it would work but didn't hurt to ask. Already have after market speakers all around with custom tweeters by the side mirrors (previous owner) so speaker wise not doing to bad. In the process of installing a Sony iPod HU so that should improve my sound over stock system.

Those speakers ARE subs. Just very cheap, very limited range ones.

The tweeters on the sides make it a "full-range" throw in box for small cars with front speakers or something. Typically they're run off cheesy amps that have speaker inputs and are rated for 100W even though they barely put out 10.

You can wire it up and use an amp, but why would you want to?

You can probably get better sound with a pair of cheap 6x9's mounted in boxes, and if it's bass you're after, grab a 10" or 12" and a put it in a box with an amp and you're good.

Walmart usually has subs and even single sub boxes on clearance with the stereo stuff every so often, as do some car audio stores, so check around for something good before spending any more money going the cheesy route.

After finally installing the new HU (damn sport models nothing is ever simple it seems) the speakers sound so much better, doesn't even sound like the same system. I won't have a need for sub now I can get enough bass with my current setup just playing with the EQ. More important items on the truck need to be looked at like replacing my probably bent rims. Thanks for the help guys

those are just midwoofers

I wouldn't use that enclosure for subs any way...too small and you have no idea what the tuning frequency is.
