i was wondering what would be a good lift for a desert racer look. i was thinking of about 2-3" of suspention lift with extended arms or something of the sort. im not really interested in really huge tires and mudding. has anyone seen the explorer in that performance products mag.? thats what i like. i do a lot of highway driveing too so i want to keep it manageable on the road. any advice on lift kits will help and if anyone knows of a place that makes custom arms i would like to know. thanks all

the arms i was refering to are the axel arms not the radius arms. is it possible to have those? if so who makes them and most important....how much?

Hey Robert, check out Camburg.com - they've got the arms you're looking for at a pretty reasonable price. If you end up getting them, have the welds checked out real good before installing. I've only heard and seen good things about their products, but have seen a few 'cheesy' welds. Also, Chad was talking about the 'crap' Skyjacker kits, which come with the same type of bracket that Superlift uses with ALL their kits. Skyjacker has two different brackets available, one the basic drop bracket, and the second is a replacement bracket, does NOT use the OE bracket for the passenger side axle housing. Much stronger. As far as the radius arms go, I just saw a post somewhere, forgot where it was, about someone trying to figure out lost travel in the front. He mentioned thinking that the pivot points should be a little higher to better match the radius arms. ABSOLUTLEY CORRECT!!! The radius arms and beams or axle housings should pivot at exactly the same height, keeps geometry correct and will not bind the radius arm bushings as bad. What all these KITS are made for is Boulevard 4WD's, not the guys who go out and actually use their trucks. So, back to the old phrase, 'you wanna play, you gotta' pay!!!' Nothing comes cheap anymore, gentlemen, you want it safe, strong AND workable. Check out all your options, pay a little extra for the RIGHT parts, the BETTER kit. It'll go a long way in the long run toward paying for itself...
