Be careful with this one. A couple of things can happen, but if the check engine light comes on, shut the engine down and put the old one back in.
What is likely to happen is the computer will see that the MAF is faulty and will run the engine in WOT mode. To prevent against what it predicts as a number of possible major engine malfunctions, the computer will dump extra gas in to the mix, retard timing and although it will feel like it is pulling strongly, it is in self-defense mode. The extra fuel, if run for long enough, will wash the cylinders of oil causing scuffing, the engine may backfire, and you may burn out the cats.
There is a very good chance the computer will not jive with the MAF. The computer takes input from the MAS and expects the readings to be sent based on a certain calibration. The MAS is calibrated to work with a certain sized engine with a specific injector size.
