What to do first. Mod or improvement?

In response to my newbie post on the new members section, Brooklyn Bay recommended a 91-94 model as being the best for what I require.
(Pre-used from Japan, shipped to Ethiopia for use on blacktop roads and rough ground). Safety in height from all the numpty drivers on the roads over there.

If I get one of these years vehicles what should be the first mod that I should carry out on it. Or any other mod in that case!

All of the mods depend on what you plan on doing with the vehicle, do you want to go off road, do you want a reliable daily driver, speed freak, ect.
