Hello Everyone,

I'm new here and I need suggestions:

I have new rims and tires 315/75/16s off of my 00 F150 4x4. I lifted the truck and bought the tires at the same time 2 months ago. The truck was totaled last Saturday.

So I am now driving my wifes 02 4x4 XLS 4.0 V6... What would be the cheapest way to run this tire and wheel combo on here. Is it even possible? Would the bolt patterns line up? I'd like to use these wheels on here somehow but don't want to spend alot, or else I have to buy a 97-03 F150 and start all over again just to use these. I do like the Explorer though, she has potential... I'm just not sure how much money I'd have to put into it to be able to run this combo as an everyday driver. I wish I would have opted for the V8 now when I first bought it.

Thanks,

Tims and rims

Hey hows it going? First I just want to say those are WIDE tires!! Second the bolt patterns are indeed different (Explorers-5 x 114.3mm as F150-5 X 135mm) However people make adapters for your case online and on eBay. But here is my disclaimer: I once put wheel spacers on my previous Explorer (01 Explorer Sport)...bad idea after about 2 months I noticed a bad shake in the steering wheel when i turned and a loud hum and I took it into the dealer and I had blown out both front hub assemblies. The mechanic was my friend and he explained to me that when I put the Spacers on it put almost all of the weight of the explorer on the hub assemblies and bearings (usaully all the weight is on the rims and tires). So in summary I would not put the adaptors on.... our 02-05 Xs already have a bad rep for the front bearings going out why help it? Also I havn't measured but I seriously don't think 315/75 will run on the X without rubbing...unless you took the steering out of the car and just drove it straight for the life of the car. :D

Sorry if I disappoined you didn't mean to...lol,

I don't think there is any way you can clear 315's with a 3rd gen, since there are no lifts offered. You could possibly piece a lift together, coil springs, body lift, but I still doubt you will be able to clear those tires.

Well you guys just made my life a lot easier then. Thanks for the info. I've always been an F150 4x4 guy and was kind of excited about being able to modify this and possibly use some aftermarket mods from my totaled truck. After all, they're just sitting in my garage. It would have been nice to not have a car payment for a while and have a pimpin' explorer. Looks like none of it will work. Oh well, looks like I'm buying another F150.

Thanks for the info, greatly appreciated.

well if ur serious about it and u want to put a minor lift on it, although itll make it stiffer, then u should be alrite by putting custom springs on it.. i put custom 2'' lifted springs on the front to level it... go to coilsprings.com and request a quote for a set.. still dk if itll fit those but thats a suggestion.. if not, rancho should be introducing new shocks soon if they actually carry thru with plans, if it wont be like it was before and they just cancel ideas for 3rd gens
