Hello all...new to the site and I wanted to say whuts uuup. I just purchased a '93 Explorer XLT, 4x4, auto, 4.0 with 154,000 miles on it for $500.00. I'll be picking it up Thursday. It needs tires and brake work and it has it's share of scratches but most things seem in order. My question is what should I check out first? What usally goes first in explorers with that kind of miles on it? Does anyone have any words of wisdom for a new guy with a Explorer?

Thanks for any advice....

If its an Auto Trans-defiantely check it out well. Expensive to fix. That seems to be a big reason older Xs go for cheap (In my experience anyway).

Trans is # 1. Make sure it doesn't slip/hesitate when putting it in fwd or rev when it is stone cold. Also, check the radius arm bushings and for rust around the rear quarters and rocker panels. $500 sounds like a good price if you don't have any major issues.

Ahh.....hes up north. I forget things rust out after a few years up there, being from down south. Good point!

Just wanted to say thanks for all the input so far!!

Bleed the rear brakes to make sure the rear antilock brake system is not plugged up. flush enough fluid through it so you have clean fluid in the brake lines.

MARRAGTOP..............if the tranny hesitates when stone cold.......mine occasionally wont engage like it's in nuetral ! What does that indicate as far as a tranny issue ?
