I was looking at Harbor Freight jacks and saw they have the one that goes on a standard floor jack and one that has a "crank". I read that OperaHouse had to modify the jack to fit the trans pan. Should I buy one of these or try to weld up something myself?

I'm leaning to getting some angle iron and making a cradle that will fit on my floor jack. Anyone do this?

the last time I removed and installed a 4R70W, I used my sears 3,5 ton floor jack. I used the old pan to jack the transmission up on, and I replaced the $24 pan when I was all done. Of coarse, not recommended unless you have a few people to help steady the transmission as it goes up and down.

The transmission is really unstable

with a floor jack. Don't even think of trying it alone with just a jack. I tried that method and the transmission fell off. Fortunantly I had put several layers of rugs around the floor and they broke the fall.

Thanks for the info. I ended up getting a Harbor Freight scissors type lift. Works fine for my needs. It's rated for 450# but a 4R70W is more like it.

hmmmmmmm......That strap

I see you didn't use the attached strap. Mine was on backward and tried every which way to get it to hold. Then I removed the bolt and reversed it. Nice to see some transmission fits flat on it.
