what would it sound like if my flexplate was missing teeth

hello I need advice my 91 has a rythmic clanking sound coming from the rear of the motor does this sound like im missing some teeth on the flex plate

Remove the starter and inspect the flexplate using a flashlight as someone else turns the crank bolt (at the main pulley) slowly.

Do you only hear the noise when you are cranking, or do you hear it when the engine is running as well
