What year trans. to buy?

I need to replace the trans. in my 95 Exp. i have been lookin on craiglist and see alot of good deals on used ones out of wrecked trucks but non are the same year as mine. i seen a 98 for 200 and a 99 for 300 but dont know what years will work in my truck. thanks

1996 4R55E will work also.

after a fluid change and a lucas the 2-3 flared shift has went away.

4r55e out of an Aerostar will also work,, they had the same trans in 1995-96 i believe,,

AFAIK, the Aerostars primarily used the 3.0 v6. I know for a fact the A4LD's weren't reinforced for the weaker v6 engines, only for the 4.0. However, I don't know if Ford carried this practice over with the newer trans. BrooklynBay would be able to answer that question better than I.

The 1996 4.0L Aerostar has a 4R55E. The 1997 4.0L has a 5R55E. The 1995 & 1996 Explorers have a 4R55E.

that may be a temporary condition. magic fix in a bottle is usually short term. i'd consider it bought time while you come up with a new trans.
