I have a 95 ex 4.0 ohv and she has over 300 thousand miles on her, she still run good, but i know the end will come one day.So i have begun to look for a replacement motor. I have found some engines on craiglist and other places online that are low milage and i can hear run before buyin. I have not found the exact year of my truck but have found a few 92 or 93 and a few 97-98. What year motor would be my best choice to buy as a replacement if i dont find another 95 or 96 with low miles?

not any help out there today?

I think essentially, the main engine parts are the same, it's just things like manifolds and pulley brackets that are different, but as far as I'm aware, they're interchangeable.

I'd go for a low mileage late model engine and retro fit all your components on it. I think you've got up to an '01 model for the engine, but I could be wrong... hope that is of some help for you

To make sure just ask any parts place that sells long blocks from Jasper or whoever, they should be the same part number.I will see what I can find online and get back.:D

No such luck at Jasper, they have different part# for different years,I'm sure somebody here knows for sure.

Anything is possible if you have the knowledge, time, and resources, BUT....

For a direct swap, your stuck with a '95 OHV engine. This is the ******* year OBD1.5 and has parts unique all to itself.

Nothing under 95 will swap direct and work with your electronics, they are OBDI.
96 and up are OBDII. The OHV was replaced by the SOHC in late 97. In 98, they introduced the PATS system, no good for your model.

Now you can swap a 95, 96, or 97 OHV into your rig. You will have to change some things in the 96, & 97's. But these are your best candidates for a swap.

For what to swap out, do some searches for this in the 2nd gen stock & modified sections, or someone might feel like going into detail and explain it to you.

Congrats on the 300 k mark too! :)

thanks for all the help i finally found a low millage 96 to swap out.
