Whats needed to change gearing

I have a 2002 Ford Explorer XLT 4x4 with 100k that was hit in the front end the differential was cracked and no good. I cant seem to find another differential witihn 200 miles with 3.55 gears but the junkyard up the street from me has the front and rear differential with 3.73 ls for 100 bucks. my question is will the speedometer have to be recalibrated or do the speed sensors at the wheels send the signal for speed. does anyone know if theres any other factors i have to think about ? thank you !

I found 50 of the front carriers with the right ratio less than 100 miles from Assonet Mass. Most are alot closer to you, costing about 250 or so. (enter your zipcode, search by distance)
To answer your other question, I do not know where in the drivetrain the VSS is in the 3rd generation trucks. Maybe someone else can help with the answer to that one, but on the second gen the VSS is mounted on the rear diff.

Regardless of where the VSS is located, changing your gear ratio is going to require a computer reflash, with a flash tuner, such as an SCT XCAL3. In modern computer controlled vehicle, you'll have more then just a speedo error, as vehicle speed affects many other things, including ABS function and transmission shift points and firmness.

First off thanks for all the responses. I was looking on car-parts alot but i figured it would be under differential axle assembly 4x4 instead of carrier assembly i found it up the road so thank you once again
