What's so special about a Limited anyway?

Howdy. What makes Limiteds better than an Eddie Bauer or high end XLT? (I'm mainly asking about 1st gens, but 2-3 is okay) All I can figure out on mine are the fog lamps, standard running boards, digital compass/thermometer, and of course, the badging. But from what I see, an XLT can be dressed up to be pretty close to that. Am I missing anything? Thanks.

The leather and special paint colors.And that awesome grill. i love the limited grill. And JBL sound system, and dual 6 way power seats , and heated mirrors.

Thanks bikerboy. I forgot about the grill and heated mirrors. But couldn't EBs and XLTs have the JBL system? I'm not sure about the seats though. I remember that the '92 Eddie I used to have had the inflatable hip things, but not the lower back balloon. My Limited is the opposite. I do agree about the grill though...

I have a 1993 XLT and it has the JBL sound system, and dual 6-way power seats. No heated mirrors, though. No snow here in AZ.

I think you can dress up XEBs and XLTs to be very close to Limiteds. The small exterior differences are the only real difference.

The only interior "frillies" that my LMTD has over my XEB is heated mirrors and memory seats. The XEB actually has a sunroof that the LMTD doesn't. Both have leather, power everything, auto mirrors, message center, overhead console, etc.

On limited in a first Gen...a Limited basically has the lower options as a standard. The doors also have that thicker padding on them....

I actually like the look of the XEB's over the Limited. I don't know, I feel like the Limited's grille is a little too busy---I guess I'm also partial to the two tone paint, they look good. Either way, I've become really happy with the fuel computer, electronic climate control, and auto dimming review--these were niceties that I haven't had before. My seat (also) has both the lumbar and thigh 'wings'.

has all of the "frillies" too JBL sound system, dual heated auto mirrors, auto dimmer rearview, message center , fuel message center, dual leather memory seats with the hip and back baloons.. I'm happy with all of the "frillies" I bought mine used (a year old when bought) so someone else paid for all of the add on's that didn't come in the "package"

Limited that I used to own was just awsome. Leather seats were very easy to clean after an off-road trip.

I don't know... there was something about that truck that made it so special...
My Limited was equipped with: leather seats with word Limited stiched into the backs of them, power seats with lumbar support, memory driver side seat, auto dimming rear view mirror with auto on headlights, JBL sound system with sub, battery run down protection, heated mirrors, Limited style running boards and fender flares (body color), front and rear bumpers (body color), front bumper valance with fog lights, towing package standart (w/tranny cooler), factory alarm system standart, power locks with remotes standart, outside temp sensor standart and of course front grilled painted in same color as the entire truck... maybe you could get these features on other models but Limited had them all in one package.... simply put Explorers were built from XL to Limited with plenty of gadgets to choose from in between.

I forgot about that. On the 2nd Gens, the XEB seats RULE the Lmtd seats!! The XEB seats kinda "hug" you, the Lmtd seats are basically flat.

the limited's just look classy..and like they cost more then a regular explorer heck..they just look better(IMO) an have more option's..i just love mine cause there's only a handfull of limited's around..but xlt's and EB's are a dime adozen..

I recently spent 3 months searching for a new Explorer and around here the EB's had a higher sticker than the limiteds, and there seemed to be no shortage of the Limited model.

There is only like one other limited in my area.I like the first gen limited the best,and it has to be white

My EB has every option possible I belive, and the only 2 things that the Limited has over the EB is heated mirrors and memory seats. Other than these 2 options, I dont think there is anything else that you can get on a limited that you cannot get on an EB...

here's there a ton of EB's and xlt's but only a small amount of 95-97 limited's and only 4 in green

the heated mirror's and the seat's are what i was talkin about
