Answer found! What's that sound?

Edit: Found the answer, Turns out the dealer I bought it from added too much trany fluid. Caused the fluid to froth and cause some slip. I dont know if I'll be able to get anything back from the dealer, it's costing me around $180 after diagnosis and flush/fill to correct the issue. (add to that a service for the transfer case @ $49, and an oil change) and I'm spending a good $250. Not a happy camper. But it's fixed, sooooo...:D :]

So, new to the forum, and the truck. Love the Explorer!

I've got a '99 XLT, 4x4.

When going down the road, from time to time I'll hear/feel a light k-chunk. I'm wondering what this is? mostly happens at highway speeds 55-70. I'm not messing with the 4x4 switch, and the roads are generally in good condition when I've experienced it.

Any ideas? If I take it in to the shop (I did get some warrenty on it) I'm not even sure what to suggest they check.

Help!

rear driveshaft? does it happen when you get on/off the throttle?

If I had to say which end, I'd say front, but I am not sure. It's happening with the throttle is steady, and at speed.

Thread Bump. still looking for an answer on this

Do the RPM's drop a bit when this happens? Almost as if the tranny changed gears?

Could be the torque convertor locking up. It's supposed to lock up when you're at cruising speed to help gas mileage. It almost feels like the tranny changes gears, just more subtle. Shouldn't feel it very much and definitely shouldn't be hearing any sounds though. You should get it checked while you're still under warranty.

Thanks, I will. I dont think the RPMs change at least not that I've noticed. and it's usually on roads that when you think about it, COULD (though mostly not) have some ice on them. My original thought was that if I hit a patch of ice it would kick the control trac sensor in? I'll have it checked.
