What's the real story on Payload Packages?

My driver door decal says Payload Package 2. And specs for Rangers give a 1400 lb max. Almost 3/4 ton!! Seems high.

Not too much info out there about this option. All the same I use adjustable Munroe air shocks when I haul cordwood and the truck seems to take the loads in stride.
