What's up with the different VIN numbers on the 1995 Explorer?

I have a '95 Explorer. I've been to a few auto parts stores and they say they cannot find a fuel pump for my truck. You have to either have an X, M or J. Mine is a 'U'. Anyone got any ideas?

Dunno ya got me on this one but if you wanna check out your vin them go to
www.fleet.ford.com click on the maintenence tab at the top and then on the left drop down menu select vin decoder and type in your vin and see what comes back it should tell u something.

What are they talking about as far as X,M & J?

If it's the engine code yours should be an (E) 4.0 SOCH V6 or (X) 4.0 OHV V6

The U is for a 3.0 V6 which was used in Rangers only.

A '95 is only going to have a OHV engine so it should be a X.
