Whats your MPG at 78 mph?

I get about 15mpg at 75-80, and about 10 at 100-105, in my stock 91ohv
Uhm, i was under the impression the x had a 95 mph limmiter on it. anyway I intentionaly refuse to keep track of mileage as I would only get upset. once my new gears go in my days of 80 mph traveling are over

Where can you go 100-200 miles at 100 mph to measure your gas mileage?

California's I-5 :) But please dont do this. Explorers are not sports cars nor are the tires intended for that speed let alone sustained.

Wow. Thanks folks for posting. It is very interesting to see where everyone is at. It seems that most of us get relatively the same MPG given the speeds and conditions.

Thanks all and please continue. :)

towing a 3800 Ebbtide ski boat at 80mph yeilds about 9.5 mph. towing my jetski's is about 13.5 mph. All by myself at 80 is about 15. All stock except a K&N.

At 100 miles per hour for 100-200 miles and not get stopped? Thats the whole length of I-5. LOL!
BTW: Hes in Kansas.

I-5 is well over 400 miles. Yes, you will most likely get stopped. I was making a joke.

I guess I need to clarify that I was not joking about the explorer not being a sports car... just wanted to make sure that there was no misunderstanding. :p :D

Oh, and folks travel at over 100 mph on I-5 on a regular basis... maybe not the whole length... but Im not sure as I let them go by and never see them again.

I'm about to make a 250 mile trip down to Maryland so i'll let ya know what the good ol' message center tells me when its all over.

Driving half city and half highway at 65 I get about 15.5 :thumbdwn:. Recent 220 mile road trip averaging 82 or 83 mph I got 18.3 . Its a 96 sport with 3.27s and I cant use overdrive till about 75 mph. 4.10s waiting to go in. :)

Regarding the 1st gen governor...the only way you can not have a gov is if you have a chip that removes it.

anyone here have 33s and 3.73 gears? If so could you please give me your RPM readings in overdrive at like 50 65 and 75 or something like that? Thanks

I guess any sized tires and 3.73 gears would be ok I could just do the math. I played with my needles to color them and I dont know if they are on right. Thanks again

there's a link to a chart on this site. Look around in the links, etc. It tells you what your rpm would be with x gears and tires.

Damn, you guys with the V8's are lucky, I get around 14mpg going about 75mph on the highway with my 31's, K&N, Apten chip, etc. I drove out and back to Idaho from Mass. last summer, I actuall averaged around 16mpg or so most that drive out there, with the Explorer complete'y packed with stuff, easily another 1000 pounds. I don't like to baby it, bu tI do get pissed at my gas mileage. Maybe some seafoam is in order...or a chip reburn...

I get about 18 @ 75, crossing the Blue Ridge twice daily.

I ususally get between 19 and 21 with a V8. 2003 XLT, with a single flowmaster 40 and a K&N drop in filter.

Did the K&N & new exhaust make a difference, and could I expect similar from the V-6?

I get around 21mpg at that speed.

Yes speed does make a difference though, my old Econbox Pontiac got 17mpg at 90mph and 30 at 65. stupid 3 speed automatic!

My old Buick (fuel injected 2.8L V6) got 30 mpg at 75 mph. It was wonderful. And it was a mid-size car. Not too many mid-size cars today get 30 mpg @ 75 mph, do they?

I try not to think about it at $6.00 per US Gallon!

Woops, forgot about this thread....

Well on the trip I averaged 17.3mpg @ 75mph on the way down and 18.1mpg @ ~65 on the way back up. I'm quite content with that. I figure it can only go up from here! :D

I got 14 mpg on all highway going from Phoenix to Flagstaff. Not too bad considering that's an elevation change of about 6000 feet in 2 hours. I was doing about 75 mph, mostly uphill.

On the way back, I got 18 mpg downhill doing around 85 to 90.

I guess the MAC intake really does make a difference, I got 16.5 mpg coming back from the same trip just before I put it on.
