So I went wheeling two weeks ago, and then my 2000 Sport sat for a few weeks because I was riding my motorcycle while the weather was still nice in the Northeast. Today it rained, and I went to drive it, and I'm getting a pretty nice growl/roar/hum from the front end.
I jacked the front end up and tried to rock both wheels from 6-12 o'clock, and I didn't find any play. First question, can wheel bearings make this kind of growl and not exhibit any top to bottom play?
If it's not the wheel bearings, could it be CV joints? I've not heard any clicking while turning, though it's hard to tell with 33" tires that rub the sway bar. Can a CV joint make that kind of a growling noise or is it only a clicking that indicates a worn CV?
I've not noticed any change in the sound while driving and turning left or right, but again, the truck is so noisy that it's hard to tell.
Thoughts? Suggestions? I'm all ears.
