I have an 02 xlt 4.0 AWD and lately I have been having what sounds like wheel bearing noise coming from the front end. The noise is getting worse and I can now actually feel a vibration in the steering wheel that is in sync with the noise. I orginally thought it was the tires which were worn out anyways so. I bought a brand new set. Noise is still there. The thing has 100k miles on it now. Are wheel bearings or hubs an issue with these vehicles? Where is the cheapest place to get them. I saw some on Ebay for about 120 shipped. Thanks Chad:salute:

Had exactly the same problem recently. Changing the tyres made no difference so I bought a pair of front hub assemblies from my local dealer $160 each.

An hour to fit both and the difference is amazing!

Apparently bearings are a regular problem on 02/03 models.

Good luck

Lots of threads here on premature wearing out of front wheel bearings - does not seem limited to a specific model/drivetrain combo.

Common features include growling that is proportional to speed, and towards the end of the problem begins to include front vibration initially during high speed braking and later at all times.

Did both of mine last month (the left front was the bad player) took about 1.5 hours each once I had all the parts in hand. Got the bearings from two local dealers (each dealer had one in stock), think I paid about 180 each for them. Giving that shipping to Oahu is expensive, the internet sites were about the same total cost.

Good Luck.
