Wheel size change

My 2003 Sport Trac has 255/70/R16 tires on it. The mags are pitted and the tires are worn out, so I'm looking to buy a new set of both. The local shop says that it might be an idea to run 17" wheels instead and change tire size appropriately. Any comments? Good or bad idea?

Simple enough to do. Most online tire sites have a "plus size" listing. My wife's first Mustang came with P205/65R15's and we went up 2 sizes to a 245/45R17 which had the same tire O.D. Now IMO they looked great, rode like crap with the short sidewalls and she bent two of them hitting potholes.You're only talking one up-size so you'll still have some sidewall.

235/75R17's would be the closest match.
