anyone know if it's possible to swap a wheel speed sensor from the front, to say maybe the rear or to a transfer case (mine is 2wd). I'm only asking cause I have some sneaky plans up my sleeve and the wheel speed sensor is the only thing stopping me so far

that blows my plans out of the water :( how does the truck run with the sensors unplugged?

You don't need wheelspeed sensors to run or drive. Just for ABS or Traction Control functions. Leaving them unplugged will get you an ABS fault light on in the dash and an inop ABS system. (Not Recommended)

actually you do....

abs is hard tired into the brake system.

Now my curiousity is piqued about this Waskly. Even with it hardwired into the brake system, how is it going to prevent you from starting the engine, putting it into gear, and driving down the road? Does the truck magically shut off and lock up all the brakes if a sensor were to fail? Please elaborate.

it's all good. I figured out what needs to be done here.... http://www.ranger-forums.com/f82/2003-dana-44-9-inch-102460/index2.html I'm not sure exactly how the tone ring looks or what exactly I would need to do with it without pulling the wheel off, but that right there solves my problems and should work out great!

The nose ring on the rear is inside the differential. The tone ring for the front wheels is built into the wheel bearing hub assembly, it is not removable.

I have read other posts in reference to damaging the tone rings on the front and the truck goes into some sort of limp mode causing it not accelerate well or drive I think above 20mph. The most common problems I've read about related to this are damaging the tone rings wheel doing the brakes, a took bending or breaking off the tone ring for whatever reason, and there was something I kept seeing mentioned about the tone rings being to thin at some point on some vehicles being produced. If you just go to google and type in ford tone ring you get a whole slew of stuff related to it.
So gus that outta pretty much give you the info you're curious about and matt, well, now that I found that link I'm sure there's something I can work out knowing that basically that's what I'll have to come up with. http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25540 that seems to be probably along the lines of what I would need to accomplish

Well I'll be.... Learned something new today.

haha I only spent a couple days and like 6 hours scouring the internet looking for info on what can be done about this, but don't worry cause I learned something new too!!!
