Does anyone know if American Racing 17x9 wheels model ATX CHAMBER TEFLON (Series AX9856) one piece aluminum painted will work on a 2008 Sport trac?

Should work as long as you get the correct backspace and bolt pattern.

Even if you could they're probably custom order. Finding off-the-shelf wheels that fit with our goofy bolt pattern, offset, and backspacing requirements isn't the easiest thing in the world. Our trucks use a 5x114 bolt pattern (the same bolt as a lot of Toyota passenger cars use, go figure) with a +30 to +45 mm offset and a maximum of 6.75" of backspacing IIRC.

EDIT: I went and looked up the sizing on American Racing's website for you... The maximum offset available in that wheel is 0 and they don't offer (those) wheels in our bolt pattern. So the answer to your question is no, those wheels will not fit.

Yeah, I got tired of searching and just had my factory 16x8s powder coated flat black and left the centers silver. They look decent, especially with chrome lugs, and I had all four powder coated for less than the cost of one aftermarket wheel, so I'm not out a lot of money if I do find some rims I like down the road.

On a plus note they do use the same bolt pattern and offset as the Mustang, so a lot of choices there...

KMC will make you a custom wheel, just takes a while to get them. I ordered some XD series Hoss 20x9 for mine not too long ago. Going on two months now.

And BTW OUTKAST, your factory rims done in flat black look HOT! Got any bigger pictures? You said it was cheaper than new wheels? How much did the powder coating cost? I checked on doing mine in black, cheapest estimate I could get was around $150 per wheel and that was PAINT, not powder coating. That's why I went with custom wheels, got mine for $250 each tax included, then again I have a hook-up at NTB, so I pay 10% over their cost.

Thanks man, I'll definitely post some bigger pictures soon. I'm waiting for my step bars to come in so I can get them installed. I hate to ask, but just out of curiosity, would you mind sharing how much are your KMC's setting you back?

EDIT: I must be a COMPLETE flipping idiot. I totally missed the last half of your last paragraph. I need to take my meds, apparently. $250 each is NOT bad... Hell, I'm tempted to order me some of their Diesel wheels now... I thought they'd be more expensive than that. I'm sure one of my buddies could hook me up with a similar pricing plan. Oh and my powdercoating for all four wheels cost ~$280 including 8.2% tax.

to be exact, tax included the total was $999.96

Hmm... Not bad at all. I might have to rob my Pro-Touring project of some funds (once again)... Gotta show a little love to the daily driver right? Thanks for the info, I'm going to think about that for a while. I LOVE KMC's Diesel wheel, be sure to post pictures up here once you get the new wheels on. Did they give you an estimated ship date or anything?

Can't decide between 20s and 22s

I am having trouble deciding on getting a set of 20s or 22s for my 97 Explorer XLT.....Im leaning towards the 22s but to be honest I don't know why. Maybe its the whole bigger is better thing stuck in my head, but I don't want that biting me in the ass. I have no plans on lifting or lowering my Explorer. I don't take it off road even though it is 4x4. Mud has cost me lots of money in past rides. I am preparing to sink about 1500 in this ride. Since I dont want the note that comes with a nice ride, I figured Id make my ride a Nice Ride. These are my plans just in case it helps with the picture since I currently dont have any pix. I ordered billet grilles for top, and bumper. Will be here monday. I am ordering a 2.5 inch cowl induction scoop for the hood along with some euro tail lights.(projection headlights will be one of the last things, as I can do alot more with 300.00 right now) I have a little bit of body work to do on my back fender and bumper. after the body work is complete. Me and a buddy will be painting the whole truck Viper Blue Pearl with Metalic. and unless I am told by a high number of people that 20s would be better, then I will be putting 22s on it. Also If you can help I have one more question. I have grown up a firm believer that V6's arent made for exhaust systems....but the hell with that, I dont wanna be the loudest and baddest truck on the street, I just want something with a good mellow tone, not something that is gonna sound annoying, but something that is going to sound nice and smoothe, maybe even grab your attention a little bit....and let ppl know when you got down on it, but without busting their eardrums...if that makes any since....lol...I guess what im saying is I dont want the redneck sound of straight pipes, glass packs, and cherry bombs. though I have nothing against them. With that said, I have 97 Explorer XLT 4x4 V6 SOHC. Any help, advice or anything would be greatly appreciated! :us: :exp:

I'll give you this much advice... 22" tires cost a lot more than 20" tires!

And personally I think 20's look HUGE on my truck compared to the factory 17's

Thanks for the info, its much appreciated.

Does the Sport Trac have the same bolt pattern as the explorer/mountaineer? Thanks

Yes, they do. 5 on4.5

Well I took your advice, and went with the 20s. I just put them on a few hours ago. I dunno if it really rides different, or if Im imagining most of it, from everyone saying it would. I can't believe how much better my ride looks. I actually put a pic up , its my profile pic I guess. I don't know if its showing up yet. If it is, let me know what you think. Thanks for the advice.
