When did your sohc start the death rattle

Thanks for the reply. Now for a dumb question... are all the SOHC engines clearly marked or do I need to look at VINs?

OK, got my engine out.

Dated tags on both engines: big white stickers on the back of the intake, back of passenger side cam cover, side of driver side cam cover, paper tags on various hoses, ink marking on back of block below pass side head, ink on top of A/C-P/S bracket. The markings are slightly different between years, but in the same places.

The easiest one to see with the engine in the vehicle is the driver side cam cover label.

mine started rattleing at 69,x.., I let it go til 73,x.. I replaced the primary tensioner and its fixed ......for now

mine started the first time at less than 60K and Ford extended the warranty on the chains to 100K, I took it in at about 96K with the same problem, they said they could hear no problem. I insisted, they said "no problem with you exploder". Now at 104K it is sitting dead waiting for me to finish pulling out the dead one and putting in a replacement motor.

yep! 183k on mine. My friend who had it before said it was making the noise when he got it around 150k, and it never got worse...who knows how long itll last though

My engine just stopped dead running on the way home from work tonight :(

I think it may be the chains. Not sure yet though. The drivers side chain is still there, as for the rest, who knows? :thumbdwn:
