I was wondering when I should expect to replace the plugs and wires on my 00' Explorer with 49k miles. It seems to run okay now, but I was reading about people with wire problems around 50k. I just was wondering when I should replace them and what brand I should replace them with for best performance. My only mod plans are a KKM intake, exhaust, and custom programmed chip. Thanks for the help!

A good rule of thumb is every 55-60k. Motorcraft double platinum plugs and motorcraft wires are just fine.

I would recommend Jacobs or Magnacore wires.

i dont remember what brand my wires are, but they're 9.3mm. the stock 7mm wire look really thin compared to these.
and i think the plugs i used were splitfire.

it's not like better plugs and wires will add more horsepower. if your wires/plugs are bad, you will notice an improvement with any new wires and plugs.

my stock wires were/are 8mm. At least that's what the package said ;)

Leenjen is correct in that most of the time when you see power gains due to new plugs and wires; it's because the old ones were shot.

Also, the Ford DIS coil pack is a very powerful unit. As long as your plugs and wires are decent, it should overcome any resistance in the system.

I agree with ALEC and LEENJEN. 60K is when I will change both plugs and wires wether they need it or not.
