Hey guys I bought my K&N FIPK used. I didnt get a manual. How often should you clean and re-oil your filter? Just wondering, because mine is looking a little dirtly, but still has a good amount of the oil on it. Any help would be great.

These are the official instructions that came with mine new:
Service every 50-100,000 miles for street use.Service more often in off-road or heavy dust conditions. Note: Exterme fine dust(agricultue/off-road use) will pull the oil from the element.Frequent re-oiling of the clean side might be required...DO NOT BLOW DRY WITH AIR HOSE
Cleaning instructions:
1)pre-cleaning:tap the elent to dislodge any large embedded dirt, then gently brush with a soft bristle brush(If complete cleaning is not practical at this time re-oil the element and reinstall..Remember you can actually use some of the build-up to your advantage,it doesnt cause that much restriction to flow and actually helps better filter the air.)
2)Spray on K&Nair filter cleaner onto the entire element and soak for 10 minutes
3)pan cleaning(this doesnt apply to our filters)
4Hints: NO to the following!
gas cleaning
steam cleaning
caustic cleaning solution
strong detergents
high pressure car wash(or anything high pressure)
parts cleaning solvents
5)Rinse off low pressure tap water flush from clean side to dirty side
6)Drying: Shake and air dry naturally
7) Re-oiling: Always re-oil with K&N Filter oil-either aerosol or squeeze bottle...Spray oil down each pleat with one pass per pleat Wait 10minutes and reoil any white spots still showing...
8)Reinstall.....

Hope this helps and wasnt too much info for ya: ) Just tryin to help Later

just clean it every 50K miles and you should be set, thats like once a few years on normal driving conditions. If you do LOTS of offroading and dust you may want to do it more often

I do the "half" cleaning about every 3 oil changes (9k miles). I've done the full cleaning once, with about 25k on the filter. Basically if you keep the big stuff out of it and keep it oiled, you're fine.

After a year and about 20K miles mine was looking a little dried out, not the pinkeish color.
Nice thing is a extra cleaning isn't going to hurt anything.
Just be sure you don't get too much oil on it so that it coats your MAF sensor
