where are the 90's?

i've been seeing a lot of adds lately for lifts for the 90-94 explorers but have yet to see a 1990 Ford Explorer. can anybody tell me what is going on? -russel

I don't think there was a 1990 Explorer available to the public. I thought it was released in 91.

I bet as in with most cars, the 1991 was available in 90

Yes, they were probably available in 90, but there was no 90 model.

yeah, but if that was the case, then the lifts would be for 90-93 and the the 94's would be considered the 93's b/c they were released on august 1 the year before their name just as is the case of every other car. but when the companies advertise a lift for the 90-94 explorers, then they mean there are 5 different trucs. if what you guys mean is still what they are doing, then the lift ma ers are considering the 94's the first "round" body explorer and that aint happening. what a mystery-russel

It's like what is going on right now for example. Ford has released the 2002 Thunderbird and Explorer already, and it's only the third month of 2001. Does this make these vehicles 2001 models??? No, they are still 2002 model vehicles.

I would guess the same thing happened in 90 with the release of the first Explorer. It was a 91 model, available in 90. The lift manufacturers have lifts labeled for 91-94 (i've never seen one labeled for a 90) which mean they are for all the box style Explorers, not the 95 (round) style, even though they were probably available in 94.

90 models

Hey as with a few new cars in the last 10 years, vehicles that were new their first year were sometimes brought to certain dealerships extra early and the salesmen sometimes pushed them as a year earlier model, like these things are brand new and there are very few 90 models, but if you buy now instead of waiting you will be cooler than everyone on your block!!!

i have talked to a few people who could have sworn they had a 90 model.

You will not find any listings for a '90 in any catalog, or internet search.

If I read "2001, a space odyssey" in 1968, will that make it really "1968, a space odyssey"?

From what I remember the 91 models were avail in June/July of 90, and the Mazda version came out in oct nov.90.- the build date stamped on mine is 9/90.

Parts go by model year not calender year no matter what, with build dates used as needed for specific parts.

The 90-94 suspension parts may be a typo, or more likely have something to do with our cousins the Ranger pick-up. I think that 90 may have been the first year of the 4.0 and Dana 35 for the Ranger, the same running gear that is in the early explorers. So some similarities exist between suspension kits for the Ranger and Explorer and they may just label them for all those years not really caring if there is a 90 model year since the ranger is so similar. My Rancho kit came with instructions and parts lists for both and there are some but not many differences.

Hows that for a theory?
