I am looking at buying an airbag module but I dont know where its located, to complete my sync project which is getting rid of the 911 assist error. My dealership doesnt want to update my sync system which came out from a 2010 explorer, and someone from fordedgeforum.com who works for ford said all they had to do is update my airbag module, so I am planning to buy one from a salvage vehicle.

Each air bag has a module for deployment. There is a controlling module called the Restraint Control Module (RCM) that probably needs to be updated. It requires a procedure called PMI (Programmable Module Installation) to integrate the RCM into the network. I don't think you can just physically install a RCM from another model year vehicle (or any other vehicle) and have it work on your network.

You may want to check with another dealer to help with the electronics issue to fix your problem.

The RCM is located under the center console large box on an 07 Explorer. The console must be removed for access.

Good luck.
