Hello All...
Just registered as I just purchased a 2002 Ford Explorer XLT. Vehicle is in excellent condition with onlty 46K miles. The only issue I have right now is I have no idea of the code for the keyless entry pad. There was no manual so I don't know where to look for the 5 digit mfg code on the computer module. Can someone tell me where it is located. I was told it was in the door panel on the passenger side. I sure hate to start pulling away panels and really not knowing what I am looking for.

Looking forward to chatting with everyone.

The keyless entry pad located outside of the drivers door doesn't have any type of label showing the 5 digit number. I know how to reprogram it but without this factory number I am doomed!

Also, my apologies....thank you for responding and looking forward to being a part of this site.;

I had to do this when I bought my 02. If I remember the module is behind the passenger side rear door. The module has to be popped out because the code is on the bottom. It seemed odd that it was the opposite side of the vehicle the keypad was on. Looks like any other number found under a bar code. It does not seem obvious. I went back to find the link in the old post, but it is no longer there. It should be a sticky on this site.

Many thanks....I am going out to the garage now and make pull out the door panel on the rear passenger side...pray for me!

Not in the door.......The panel between the door and the rear wheel well on the passenger side. Sorry that didn't translate well. Guess I thought you would look for the sticky post with the pictures. It took a lot of searching, but I found the post.

On my 03 EB it is in behind the plastic housing between the rear door and the back window on the passenger side. It is the plastic housing the holds the seat belt. Prop it back and get a flashlight. The number is right on the front of the modual.

Here are the steps I wrote after finding it in my 04

Step 1 - fold the rear passesnger seat
Step 2 - pull the rubber seal out (rear upper section only)
Step 3 - The upper panel where the seat belt adjuster is can be easily pried out, you'll see the clips after you remove the rubber weather stripping
Step 4 - There is a clip on the lower part of this panel that can be easily popped out
Step 5 - Now you can pry easily on the lower panel, you'll see the module when you look down inside after prying open the upper panel.
Step 6 - I used a small mirror, and found a 5 digit number on the black module box. The white sticker has black text and is is facing the drivers side so without a mirror you'd really need to get the lower panel loosened to pry it out more.

It was easy - 5 mins tops.
Step 7 snap everything back together - no tools required - except the mirror.

Hi Ken,

I found it right between the rear passenger door and the rear window. Please try it this way:

1.- Remove the gasket seal around the rear passenger door this will allow you to remove the plastic panels.
2.- Remove the plastic cover that covers the rear post, yes the one that holds the seat belt. Remove it carefully because you will need to put it back the same way.
3.- Once this cover is removed, then partially remove the big panel that covers all the bottom area of the rear glass window.
4.- By removing the rear seat, you will have more room to see the 5 digit number righ below a bar code on the module without the need of a mirror.

Hope this helps!

Many thanks for your help....daughter has explorer right now but due back this weekend.
will give it a try.
Doesn't look too complicated

Ken

Oh this is great!!! I've own my '03 for 3 years and my wife has lock the keys in it 3 times. It can be a pain in the butt to open because I'm so cheap that I'm not paying for a locksmith.

The dealer was able to scan it somehow for around $75 bucks on our old '02 Explorer.

It might be located internally in the "car computer" but still to expensive for something really simple!......
