OK, I feel doubly bad now: haven't changed out the rearend oil in 70K b/c the manual says its synthetic and doesn't need it (BAD), I finally get off my dead-end to do it, and I can't find the freaking refill hole (DOUBLY BAD).

Detail: 98 Explorer 4x4 XLT / 3.73 LS

At least I was smart enough to make sure I knew where it was before I pulled the diff cover, but geez! I did the oil and the transfer case, figured I would do the diff - NOPE.

Incidentally, the RedLine 75-140 was <$8/quart at the local NAPA, I figured it would be more than that. Had to buy two, it takes 1.5 qts to fill the diff. Also, the book they had showed 90w as the spec, dumb book. My wife checked it for me in her book - nice to have a wife unafraid of the manual.

I felt around everywhere, what am I missing??

PS Don't do what I did and wait so long, don't forget the friction modifier, don't forget the permatex gasket gunk.

Muchas Gracias

Thanks, I can't believe I missed it.

PS I did search first, didn't find what I was looking for.
