Where to get?

R

rydinhigh

Well after my dad talking crap to me tonight about his F250 being so big and my Explorer being so puny, i'm going to jack up my truck now instead of lowering it. I think im going to do the TT, Warrior Shackles, AAL, and 2"body lift (my birthday and christmas are coming). What I would like to know is where is the cheapest place to get all of the things, online other than ebay, that I am looking for.

Thanks,
Mike

This sounds like a decision made in haste that you might regret at your leisure. Explorers can look cool both lowered and raised but you started out wanting it lowered so I would guess that you're not going to do much 4-wheeling. Why don't you take a couple of days to think it over before you start buying stuff. Don't let your Dad make your decision for you. OBTW I'm a Dad too. ;)

Thank you Tarron for your reply and your input. Here is the situation, after having my truck a short time I did go off-roading with some friends. I managed to keep up with them but it was difficult, and we also got tickets for improper use of a trail. Then someone told me that there was no way to lift my X but that I could lower it instead. I have always been a fan of lifted trucks but after hearing that I couldn't lift it, I grew dissapointed. Then after coming to this site I found out that it is possable to lift my truck and now that is what I really want to do. Also there are spots around me that are allowing people to go off-roading in. :D

Yeah, then you won't have to change your name to rydinlow":D

TT= Free
Shackles = 60 bux from Desert Rat
2in BL (you should go with a 3inbl) = 75-125 bux summit racing.

what is AAL

Ryan

well thanks ryan1

AAL=add a leaf (sorry I was to lazy to type last night)

also when looking for the body lift and add a leaf are there any brands that are better than the other?

Thanks guys

The preffered Shackles are made by Warrior products...part number 153.

correct and I heard that the best price is through Desert rat.

Glad to hear that raising your X was your idea; it just seemed last night that it wasn't. You'll find that as you do more and more off-roading you will get better at it. By raising your X a few inches and lowering your tire pressure for a better grip you should be able to keep up with all but the extreme off-roaders. Don't know if you have a 4 Wheel Parts store near you but mine here will match anyone's price so I get most of my stuff there.

I went with a 3"BL but I know when I do my SAS that will be too much and I'll probably go down to a 2"BL. If you are going to do 4" Suspension lift, then depending on what size tires you want to run and how much trimming you want to do then choose your BL accordingly. The TT/Warrior Shackle lift is the best because you can still keep it if you decide to go with the Superlift. My truck is just one of the MANY lifted 2 Gen Explorers on the site. Take alittle time and see what you like. There are a few options available. Good luck wheel safe!

Thanks every one. I think I'm going to go with the 3 inch body lift so I can fit some 33's. I emailed Desert Rat about the shackles and the Add a Leaf just waiting to hear back. If everything goes right I should have everything done by spring :D

well I just got an email from desert rat and they quoted me $51.99 for the shackles and $12 shipping. Does this sound right? They also told me that product War153 will only give me about 1" - 1 1/4" of lift and that there isn't an add a leaf kit available for my application. Does this info sound correct? I thought that the shackles were good for 2" of lift.

Thanks for all of the help

almost any aal will work.... if desertrat doesnt have the aal for your truck, a local parts store should......

shackles sound about the right price

the best bl is probably the ones made by performance accessories

The price sounds good it's just the shipping that makes them expensive. I got mine at 4Wheel Parts Performance Centers for $48.95 with no shipping costs so if you have one in your area check there. They also have a website and sometimes they have free shipping. I got 1 1/2 inches of lift with my one little spring that comes on the Sport so you should get at least that much with the stiffer spring pack on your X. Before I found out that I couldn't use a generic add-a-leaf on my single spring I got a set of those too at 4WPPCs for $27. Have fun. :)

rydinhigh - Is your Exporer a 2-door or 4-door? If it is a 2-door then you have a tapered mono-leaf. I have seen a couple of add-a-leafs for it but they run about $180. If yours is a 4-door then there are many much cheaper add-a-leafs available.

I have the four door. I actually just got done e-mailing 4wheelparts.com to see about a price for the add a leaf and the 3" performance accesories body lift. I also just got notification from desert rat that the shackles are in the mail :D

I would just like to thank everyone for there help here. I am pretty experienced when it comes to trucks but this is one thing that I have never done.
