I was wondering where the best place for the in-line fuse is for my amp? Closer to the amp or the battery? It's a Rockford Fosgate amp. About 150watts max total. Thanks.

You need one at least as close to the battery as possible. The longer the line from the battery to the fuse or breaker the more chance you have of a short. I personally put two of them in. I have a 60 amp Maxi Fuse 3" from the battery running on 4 guage wire to a distribution block. Each 10 guage wire off the block has its own fuse that is slightly larger than the size of the fuse the amp uses (or amp fuses combined)..

This way if I get a short after the block I only blow 1 fuse and I can tell where the short is easily... So far I have only blown 1 fuse.. and it was the large 4 guage wire shorting on metal when it came out of the distribution block so it blew the 60amp fuse.. I knew it was between the block and the battery so it was easy to find..

Okay so as close to the battery as possible. Like under the hood. Okay. Thanks. Could I get away with mounting it behing a kickpanel or on the firewall? Thanks

You're talking about fusing the power cable that runs from the amp to the battery, right? The fuse should be placed within 6" to 18" from the battey.

peace

Mike

Yeah, like Mike said, no farther than 18". The fuse size can be similar to the one you have in the amp, if it has one. I'd say a 30 amp should be fine.
