Hi, I just installed a aftermarket sterio in my 91 exploer, and the volume is extremely high and i was wondering if the factory amp has any thing to do with it? I want to try to by pass the factory amp and see if the volume will go lower, because i have the volume on my sony cd player set at five and it is loud enough to heart my ears. any suggetions, or has this happend to any one before? any reply would be appretiated. Thank You.

It is behind the plastic cover on the right side of the cargo area (passenger side). That is where it was on my X and I assume it is the same for you.

any idea why it is so loud?

it is very loud, even when you push the buttons on the sterio it is loud. and it is weird, when you put the volume low you can hear fuzzing in the speakers(like when you have a cable reciever on a television that isnt cable ready and you put the volume really high on the tv and really low on the reciever) when i installed the sterio there where three orange wires on the pluggs i bought so i diddent have to cut the factory wires and i diddent use any of them, and one was labled dimmer. Im pretty stumped with this one. I had the sterio in my other car and it worked fine, and also the stock sterio worked fine as well. any one ever have this happen to them? thanks.

Ok your gonna have to by pass the factory amp and install and aftermarket amp or just use the power from the receiver. It is a huge pain and i decided to just to with takin it to car toys. Kinda of pricey but it saves a lot of time and frustration.
