I honestly hate exhaust "systems" or "kits". What you should do is just buy the muffler and tip (or just get it at the muffler shop), and have them to a custom install cat-back with 2.5" piping. I have a 40 series myself on my 4.0 with 2.5" piping cat-back, here's some sound clips: www.tainted-reality.net/car/exhaust
If you get a 40, get a offset inlet/center outlet so they can fab up the Y-pipe for it.
Don't search for the whole system, just for the muffler. Type in Flowmaster, and nothing about Explorer. Have a muffler shop do the install and piping for u, its usually cheaper then buying the whole system from a manufacturer.
Stock X has 2.25" piping. 2.5" will open it up to some more high end power, but you may a little low-end tq, and vice versa if you were to keep 2.25" or get some stainless rebent for you, more low-end and not so much a power increase, but some. Getting it done at the shop is the best and easiest way to go. It's all welded together and set and stone, plus it's completely custom.
