I used the area under the carpet in the cargo area of the X. You know those 4 hooks that stick out from the carpet? I used one of those where the hook was bolted to the body of the X. Never had problems.
I use the rear passenger seat belt bolt. It's the bolt that fastens that seat belt to the floor. My amp is under the passenger rear seat, so I have a short ground run for that amp. I'm planning on adding a Thunderform or JL sub in the passenger rear cargo area, so I have another short ground run attached to the same point (not hooked up to anything yet, though).
That's where mine is now but my connector doesn't fit over the bolt very well because the bolt is huge so I am looking for a place that will fit the connector I have and make a little better connection that what I have now.
i have my ground going behind the panel where the stock sub was. my wire goes into the slot where the seatbelt goes through the plastic panel. sorry im not very good at explaining where. hmmm, i grounded to one of the bolts around the rear side windows in the back.
i drilled an hole speccially for it ,ran an bolt+nut in it, then put the connector or and another nut, it's about 1/2" high but if you put it in the right spot there shouldn't be any problem, plus you could add some more ground connection without any hassle
4Wheelin, I use the biggest ring terminal I could find, but it still wouldn't fit over my bolt either. So I clipped the ring slightly, bent it apart, and slid it down over the bolt. Can't even tell, and I tightened the bolt so well it's not going to slip off.
I put a self tapping screw through the floor under the carpet right next to my amp. I've never had any problems hearing any whine or noise in my speakers.
If whine is your problem, then moving your ground alone won't help. What will help is making sure all your grounds are tied to a single point - thus avoiding ground loops - and that all ground wires from amplifiers to ground are as short as possible. It also helps to separate signal wires from power wires. I did all of the above and have no whine or noise in my speakers.
You know how there are two flaps on the back of the back seats? In between the two (if you lift them up) there is a bolt just sitting right there. It's right in the middle of the truck, and it sounds fine, no problems.
