Which Cruise Control Switch?

I have a 1999 Explorer Sport 4.0 SOHC V6. Do I need to get the SW5928 or the SW5919 cruise control switches?

Can you go to your ford dealer and find out? Or www.google.com perhaps? Not trying to be a smartalec but i think that might be your best bet on finding out.

I know for sure that the SW5928 set will fit...

I think the SW5919 is just the left side ground wire (factory setup) if I remember correctly, and SW5913 is for the right side ground wire (doesn't matter, it can go there too), and don't know how the 5928 fits in that scheme, but my buddy bought that set and it fits...

Okay, thanks. Just placed the order on Amazon! Can't wait to change these crappy ones out.

Mine look like someone went at them with a screw driver, and I rarely use them. What a horrible design idea. These should be a factory recall.

Haha, yeah, my switches are like putty. Now every time you press them its like smooshing goo, and your fingers get sticky. I'll let you know about the switches I'm getting. I don't really care if they're lighted, as a flip switch would be better than what I have now. lol

Thanks everyone for the help. I got them today and had them installed in less than 15 minutes. I read one of the tutorials on here before and had a general idea of what I was supposed to do. I didn't go over or reread the tutorial today I just wanted to jump right in and get it done.

It took me less than 15 minutes. The thing that took the most time was trying to get the stupid wires undone from the old switches. This killed my fingers and I never could get them off with just my fingers. I ended up using some wire splicing pliers to get in there and hold them then used leverage to pop them out. I made sure I was careful not to yank the wires out. It's worth spending money on some decent tiny pliers to get these off or you'll be fiddling with them forever, and hurting your fingers in the process.

Oh and sorry I didn't take any pictures, it would have tacked on another 15 minutes to take photos... Overall this process was much easier than described here by others. I would have been highly pissed to pay Ford $230 and find out it was this easy. Literally easier than washing your car.

Oh and @Joe Dirt, it was hard to tell if they lit up, but it kind of looked like they were. I'll let you know for sure by tonight.

UPDATE: It is lit up, just like the ones that I replaced. Everything seems to be exactly alike. They're Motorcraft made by Ford, so it should be.

Saved me 30 bucks

Just wanted to let everyone know that I just installed the Cruise control switches SW-5928 instead of :thumbdwn:SW5919:thumbdwn: ( this part will still work but is $30 more)
Sorry about the thumbs down but after reading comments on this forum about the cheaper one working fine decided to go with the cheaper of the two and test it out for myself.
Thanks again to this forum I was well prepared when the switches arrived and proceeded to install them.
After disconnecting the battery and waiting 20 minutes before I started. I jumped into the job and 15 minutes later I was reconnecting the battery and setting the time on the car radio.
Test drive and everything worked perfectly and at first thought that the lights in switches no longer worked and realized this maybe why it was 30 bucks cheaper but as it got dark out I realized the switches did light up and Green . The lights in the switch dim with the interior dimmer but are just not super bright to start with. I would imagine that that is intentional as if they were too bright they would be a nuisance.
So for the life of me , I can't work out why the 30 dollar difference but I am glad I spent the time on this forum and researched.
I hope this helps some on else.

Mine actually look worse than the photos above, otherwise the interior looks great.

Was just wondering, I never use the cruise control so hard to justify the cost.

Do you think I can just do the steps that have been listed, but just take them out without replacing?

eBay - that's where I got my multi-function switch. I just avoided the ones coming from China.

I thought the difference in switches was the backlight color but I could be wrong.
