Which oil is the best?

That's why its important to change your oil every 3k. You can chance it, most people do but truly it just depends on how well of condition you want to keep your engine in.

Brought to you by your local Ford Senior Master Tech/ASE master tech.

That is definately old school thinking.

Changing oil at 3k is simply a waste of natural resources and your money.

If you don't believe that oil can go dor extended intervals, do a UOA on you oil.

Use a motorcraft oil filter, and as far as oil change intervals go. Of course oil company's will say there oil can last longer which honestly maybe the viscosity of the oil will hold up however the oil also helps remove debris such as varnish and HC (raw fuel) that gets into the oil by bypassing your piston rings during normal combustion. Changing that oil removes those items from your crankcase so it is not recirculated over and over again through your engine. No matter what kind of oil you get HC mixed with your oil is not a good thing for your engine nor will a filter remove it. That's why its important to change your oil every 3k. You can chance it, most people do but truly it just depends on how well of condition you want to keep your engine in.

Can't get the Motorcraft over here unless I go to a German Ford dealer, they order it from the US, and it costs me half my paycheck. So do you think the Mann is ok? It is one of the highest rated filters in the world, and I can walk in to any German auto parts store and get one, even for my Ex. (A few Germans actually own them) What do you think?

Agreed! I have done 5k+ oil changes on my X with UOA's done and have had better than average wear readings with ZERO fuel dilution.

I have run my car over 9k miles without changing the oil filter and had better wear readings than the average person who changed thier oil at 4k mile.

Unless there is a serious issue with your motor, your oil will not contaminate as fast as you think.
