I have a '95 Explorer Eddie Bauer. Stock. I am thinking of putting a K and N performance kit, Jet performance module, gibson or flowmaster exhaust, and granatelli mass airflow sensor. Has anyone else done this and if so was it effective. also what are the biggest tires i can put on my X without any adjustments. Stock wheels.

I would recommend the exhuast and the K&N but not the chip of MAF. They won't benefit you at all.

Just about everybody puts the exhaust and the KKM on first thing. The chip comes third cause it is more expensive. I dont know much about the MAF. The biggest tires you can fit on the your X are 31's. Sometimes with maybe a little fender trimming.

So exhaust first, which do you recommend.

Do the exhaust and the intake first.
just the sound you will get will all make it woth it!
I wouldnt do the MAF either, if anything go with a Throttle body instead. It's cheaper and you will notice more of a difference with that then a MAF. After all that, enjoy a nice Chip, Diablo would be good.

What kind of exhaust gives the best power and sound.

Power will probably be the same for all of them. I have a Flowmaster 50 series. I like it, quite with a nice rumble at idle. When you get it up around 3500 rpm it sounds awesome (like a v8). That with the KKM filter sounds even better. www.kustomz.com Get that filter, many people on the board use it. Its good and very reasonably priced. Install taked like 20-30 minutes.

40 series flowmaster will be louder then the 50.
Borla will have an all together diff rumble. Sounds very good too. Cant beat the price of the Flowmaster though. like 75-80 bucks just for the muffler. Expect to pay somewhere in the range of 225 for a 50 series muffler ad a 2 1/4" custom bend. Get a custom bend!

Yup, intake and exhuast first. I'm partial to Magnaflow mufflers. I usually recommend a Magnaflow 2.5" muffler and 2.25" tailpipe. Chips can help, but don't get JET. Also, get a TB instead of a MAS like others said.

I see a lot of posts on the KKM. Is this intake as good as a K and N FIPK. It is about half the price too y is that. Also are the chips from KKM any good.

The KKM is basically the same thing as the K&N. The only thing that is different is that the KKM is not 50 state legal like the K&N. You may have to take it off and put the stock intake on when you get an inspection. That is why it is cheaper, other than that they are the same.

I am pretty sure that it wont be legal in California. But for the price it is worth having to take it off and put the stock one on when you get your inspection. Its not that hard to do.

No, the KKM isn't emissions legal. To get around this, just get a K&N sticker and put it on your intake, or swap in the stock airbox at inspection time as suggested.

www.smartyparts.com sells the K&N FIPK GenII for $170 + $5 s/h. It just took two weeks for to come in.

I dont know if the sticker method would work in California. They have the strictest (is that even a word) rules on emissions. You can try, and if you fail just throw the stock airbox on.

whatever you do....dont go with the JET chip. Its a pure steaming pile of crap. Go with a diablo...thats what im goin with.

I have looked up the diablo chip. If i get one and then put on other mods after the chip can i have it reset again to maximize the performance. Also what is the size 255/70/16 equal to.

255 70 16 = 30 x 10

why is everyone not recommending the mass air flow sensor? Didn't Aldive put one on awhile back and have good results? i'm thinking about getting one to compliment my MAC intake and Gibson exhaust. But mostly i want to see if it will fix my valve chatter/knocking/pinging problem. it goes away if i use higher octane but i think it's because my MAC intake is causing me to run lean and i'm hoping the Granatelli Mass airflow sensor will fix that problem. any opinions? why do you not like them?
