My 2000 XLT has a loud whining/groaning noise starting around 20 mph and gets more noticeable with speed. It does however go away when I turn towards the right at speed ,such as on-off ramps or turns in the road. The noise is still there when I turn to the left.
I can't pinpoint if its coming from the right or left, but its a pretty loud whining/groaning sound. Yet my son didn't hear any thing while driving along side me on the hiway.
Would this be a cv or u joint or or even the front differential? Something else?
Upper and lower ball joints, shocks, sway bar links are recent. Tires are good.
I've searched this site and found many posts on this subject but was thinking that IF the problem disappears when turning to the right, (another posters noise disappears when turning left) there would be a more definite solution.
Thanks, Angelo

Sounds like a front wheel bearing to me.

x2 on the wheel bearings.

If you have a 4wd vehicle, the wheel bearing unfortunately comes in a "hub assembly" instead of just the bearings themselves. This assembly costs between $160 and $200 depending on where you buy it from.
