so my buddy, has a brilliant idea to take a 2wd f150 offroad in the snow which is 10 inches deep here in new england. and well as we can all figure he got stuck, but i was quite surprise of how far this brilliant one made it, he didnt just get about 100 feet, he made it about a 1/4 mile into the woods, (it was all down hill) so once when he got stuck i got a phone call ovbisouly, and well the five-o hadda go rescue is ass. now i never took this truck offroad in the snow before and im just running goodyear wranglers that are up at 38 psi, so there isnt much contact between the tread. after entering the one lane snow covered dirt road and proceeding down this long ass hill i arrive to his stranded f150, only to find that there is another one of his friends there with a 97 f350 powerstroke, on the front side of the truck, so we ended up hooking the f150 to the 350 ovbisouly and got him out of his stuck position and around this turn. in the process the f350 was now positioned on a sheet of ice that was covered by the snow and was slowly slipping down a hill sideways, there is not enough space for me to even turn around down there so my only way out now it so back up this long steep hill... I was amazed, i thaught for sure my explorer wasn't going to make it up this hill but she did, just missing trees and all it was amazing. finally i come around from the other side and get inback of the f350 after having to back down another long windy ass downhill road. with a chain hooked between the x and the f350 and another chain to the front of the truck and a nice tree (that was up hill to the right) the operation began. my truck with it in a nice low gear and low rmps did spin some tread at first but then soon grabbed, the all wheel drive really worked well and with the 350 in reverse we got it up to a safe point. now to get back out from there was about another 1/4 mile up hill around turns. i was shocked to see how great this truck handled in ten inches of snow with ice underneath in some spots. for AWD i thought i was going to run into issues not having low range, but apparently not. as for the f150, we got him out too by making tracks from our tires so all he had to do was keep them from spinning. it was quite a remarkable night if you ask me. and puts a lot more of my faith is the awd platform and the V8 as i towed out a f350 with no issues :)

anyone else have some awesome storys of stock explorers offroad?? share them and keep this thread going! id love to read up on them!

My 2wd 4.0 in Nebraska didn't do too bad in 6 inches of snow... I figured it would get stuck on some hills, but no problems at all
