Okay hi, I'm Samantha.
As par my name I am a woman and am NOT vehicle savvy, this is my only vehicle and I have two small children with lots of school days and dr appointments.

First off this morning I put my truck in reverse(automatic 6 cylinder) and low and behold my vehicle had no power to reverse. ****. Then it started beeping with all sorts of lights and messages, much to my wishing hoping a praying I didn't want to look but I did, messages said: engine failed entered safe mode, second said Check Transmission.

I limped my crippled explorer to my local advanced to get a code read on it and hopefully have my transmission fluid checked, well I didn't know I had a close transmission so now I have to find somebody to get under my car who doesn't charge labor, AKA, my very ford savvy father.

The code reader read the following codes, most I could not comprehend or understand, again....not vehicle savvy. The list is:

Abs code
C1991 modular calibration failure
P0401 egr flow insufficient
P0720 output shaft speed sensor circuit
P2106 throttle actuator control system / forced limited power
No signal ^

Somebody please help me with the following and sugar coat it if you can, my dad and husband can do everything but replace the transmission it's self and I do not have the money for a $1,500 rebuild.

Thank you!

I dont think you have a transmission problem based on what you said I would inspect the throttle body, it can set the P2106 code and cause loss of power to the engine

The P0720 code will cause shifting issues with the trans and problems with the ABS system (maybe code C1991). The trans should still engage both forward and reverse and the engine should be somewhat unaffected by this code.

The P0401 EGR code is a separate issue and shouldn't be causing the symptoms you are describing.

Clear the codes and see what returns and concentrate on that first.

A good scanner with a good data stream can make checking these kinds of issues a lot easier. I think your problem will be with the throttle body if I had to guess.

Good Luck
