Does anyone have any suggestions for making my head lights brighter without buying a $450 HID kit, there is almost no difference between high and low beam. Maybe its my car, but I've seen over Explorers that its also like this. Im not a fan of the whole highbeam/lowbeam combo lights, is there anyway to get around this? Any help would be appreciated thanks!

try claning the lenses.... and get silverstar bulbs or the new piaa xtreme whites

From other cars i have driven i think the Explorers have very good headlights next to anything with a factory HID system. My highbeams have a definate difference from the lows. Maybe your aren't aimed correctly or somethin. I've got PIAA bulbs in mine now and they helped too. Brighter lows and highs.

You have to keep your single bulbs system since there is only one headlight housing. However, it is possible to wire your headlights so that when you turn on your highbeams your lows stay on with them. How long your bulbs will last is a good question but it is possible.

hmmmmm, sometimes people flash me because they think i have my highbeams on, but i dont. factory lights too

Sylavinas Cool Blues, 16 bucks at Auto ZOne

If you X is lifted, you need to angle your headlights down a little. I had the same problem with people thinking I have my brights on, but I can barely see the light from them.

My headlights suck too. Theyre not very bright but part of my problem is one of my lenses is cracked so the dispersal pattern is messed up. Though it seems to me on my other headlight the dispersal pattern isnt to effective. Its fairly narrow top to bottom but very wide. My headlights may not be aimed right but it seems to be with the way the headlights are aiming them differently wouldnt make much of a difference. I also notice very little difference between my highbeams and low beams. I think im gonna have to try some better headlights.

I think the headlights are great. The brights are very bright in IMO.

Heh...you guys are complaining about our X's headlights?? Well, check this out...I was driving my mom's '94 Chrysler Town & Country a few nights ago and let me tell ya what...I kept checking if the headlights were on. That's how dark the lights are. How sad is that??

jim.. what places sell new lenses? i've only seen new bulbs.. maybe im blind? or don't know where to look!

jcwhitney sells them.

cool thanks..

Compared to my old '76 Chevelle and it's 4 rectangular headlights the Ex sucks for light way out in the boonies. The Chevelle would light the road signs up 1/4 mile away and show the road about 400 feet in front with the ORIGINAL 24 year old incandescent high beams and halogen low beams. But I also had aimed the highs up and wide to give a wide pattern and the lows normal to give close in support.

The Xs problem is no light in front of the car when the highs are on. If the fogs stayed on while on high then it would be ok, otherwise it gets kinda dark. I did reaim mine and that improved them some, but stock bulbs are pretty pathetic in comparason to the other cars I've owned and driven.

i'm in the "my light sux" boat. problem is, they just ain't bright enough. I have piaa superwhites, after market 55W hella H3, and the stock fogs and its still not as bright as my girlfriend's stock 00' neon! what the hell is up with that? We need dimond clear replacment headlight units. the fluting on the headlight lense disperses the light, but also creates a much darker light pattern.

My headlights seem to be really bright. They are just as good as the lights in my parents cars and the only car I ever drive with lights I thought were a lot better was an old Mercedes my aunt had. She got a Town Car to replace it and the lights on that suck.

Carl :us:

My stock headlights were really good both low and high beams, but I replaced my stock bulbs with the sylvania cool blues and it was a good improvement, so for about 15 bucks a piece they are worth a try...and remember...never touch the bulbs when you put them in!!!

i thought my headlights were ok until another car came up behind me and i could see the shadow of my X in front of me. i could see more of the road with his lights behind me then with my own. i want to get newer brighter bulbs, but i dont want them with the ugly blue tint. it's hard to find bright white bulbs

That's what my Ex is like. But, if I'm lucky, I should have a new lighting arrangement by the end of the summer

are you putting in an HID system?

No, but I'm going to try my luck with a set of off road lights. Hopefully they will be pretty bright, and hopefully the Georgia police won't mind too much. However, if that plan never comes to fruition, then I will think about an HID system
