Why do I always have to go better?

Good to hear that you got them already, yeah a friend of mine takes a photography class at school, and he took some pretty good pictures of his friends mustang, so I am going to ask him to take some for me, and see if I can get them scanned somewhere to post them up here when I am all done with this stuff.

Ok, I also found another Audiobahn sub that has a 2ohm DVC, but I am sure the RMS rating is way above the 400W I have, but I'll check that out. I am not sure if my friends are the aluminum ones, but they do sound sweet.

Hey Pete

Do youhave any picture of the boxes in therear of you truck, thanks aot

Nope...I'm tryin to finish them this week....Carpeting that is....If I do, I'll get pics and post them.
Pete

I started making this storage box in the back (goes right up against the back seat and come out about 8-9" and goes to the top of the seat), and instead of just for storage, I am planning somehting else. Here's what I am gonna do: Where the seat splits (91-94 are the same) I am going to put a wall in there, pending if that is enough volume for a sub. Then I may go with the Alpine Type R or Infinity Perfect 12" sub and cut out a hole on the backside(side against the seat) to put the sub in there. Then for the top I will put somehting on there and seal it. Then the other part of the box will hold anything else (jackets, tow straps, tools, etc..) oh and since I can't really make the part that goes around the wheel hump sealed well, and will just put a wall up against the vertical part of the hump and go straight up, then in the empty space around the wheel hump, I will put my cd changer right in there (got that?). How's that sound? I will try to get some pics asap of what I have now.

Ok, guys, I am about to order a sub, which one shoud I get, the Alpine Type R or the Infinity Perfect? I may go make a run down to a car audio shop I have never been to and see if they have these in the store for me to listen to, or if they may know which one to pick out. Thanks for your help.

Oh Pete, I was at Tower records and I saw a car stereo magazine and picked it up and thumbed through it, it was something like Car Audi and Performance (something like that, the size of the pages were like Rolling Stone, ya know what I'm talking about?). Well, to get to the point, I saw an article on the Type R, but I didn't have enough time to read it, nor did I have any cash with me to buy it. Is this the article you were talking about?

Anyone know any car stereo message boards like this. I know nothing is as good as this board, but somehting of the same format, not the message boards where they have links and then more links to the replys, I hate those message boards. Anyways, any sites to go to to ask about the subs? Thanks

Ok, got some news for you guys. I went to the sounddomain.com forum to ask them for some advice. They told me that for a good all around mix of SPL and SQ, to go with either the Infinity Perfect, or better yet, they really love the Image Dynamics IDQ 12" subs. I would go witht he dual 2 ohm application to get a 4 ohm load which is what my amp can handle. Anyways, can you guys tell me a little about this sub? I try to get some help on that site, and their are so many posts, that in one day of not getting responded to it gets pushed all the way to the 3rd page. You guys here are still a lot more friendlier than that site, there are just a whole lot more of them and a lot of them know a crap load about this stuff, so thats why I went over there. But, I need to figure out soon, so then I can finish making the box to accomodate for the volume needed for the sub. Thanks guys.

Both subs are really great. They will sound very different though. The infinity is an aluminum cone and the IDQ isn't. They both handle about the same amount of power (300-350 watts RMS) and I'm sure they both play best in small sealed enclosures. The other major difference other than the cone material is the Infinity isn't offered with Dual voice coils where as the IDQ is. If you wanted to add a second sub later you may wanna go for the IDQ so you could get a 4ohm load, but the IDQ also comes in single voice coil set up. I think you could find the Infinity for a little cheaper than the IDQ but the price difference wouldn't be more than $50-65. Definately listen to both before you buy cause they are expensive subs and you don't wanna waste your money. Well actually maybe you should just buy one online and then if you don't like it you could sell it to me used and at a discount and you could buy the other one!!! Just a thought.

Steve

Actually I was referred to 2 sites to get the IDQ for $130 brand new. That is pretty darn cheap. I am probably going to go with this sub. I will drive down to a place I think may carry these subs, if not, I may just have to buy it without hearing it. But, I have heard a ton of good things on it, so I feel a little better about buying it w/o hearing it first.

I hear you. At first i spent $900 on my stereo for 2 12's an 800 watt amp and a cd player. Then i sold all that stuff and got 2 500 watt amps and a 360 watt amp and some way better subs. Over all i thik i have spent like $5000 on my system. Damn i could have sold my explorer and bought a badass mustang or something. But its worth it.

How's the new system coming along? Did you finish the new box yet? How about the IDQ? Did you get it yet? I'm thinking about that sub and wanna know what you think about it. Thanks

Steve

Well, thanks for asking. As of right now, the box just has the 2 main walls and the base, actually holds really strong. I haven't got the sub yet because now my clutch is about to go, and I have to order the clutch and all, so I will probably just ask for the sub for Christmas. Also another reason why I haven't done anything else to the box was because I am unsure of how I am going to have the sub face. Have it face the back of the rear seat, or have it facing the rear window. I would only do it facing the rear seat because I am only getting one and it would look sort of stupid with just one sub unless it was right in the middle of the box, which it is not, so thats another dilema, but if you don't think having the sub facing the rear seat will mess up the SQ of the sub, then please tell me. Oh and another thing, ITS FREAKING COLD OUTSIDE!!! And I don't really have the rights to the garage (I am 17 and my parents have the garage all the time. I may work on the box this weekend though. And my neighbor finally got his comp. working, and he is going to let me borrow his digital camera . I am going to have to ask him if I can delete some of the pics on it cause the mem. card on it is full, but anyways, I will try to get some pics of what I have right now, so that you guys can see what I am doing, and maybe you could give me some suggestions. Well, I think thats it for now, sorry I didn't have any news on new stuff, because I didn't get anyhting yet, but I need to get it, after listening to this 1 Soundstream 12" sub being powered by a nakamichi 50x2 amp, I really need to upgrade my 1 10". That 1 12" hit extremely hard.

I would point the sub towards the rear window, not against the seat. That seat, combined with the metal flaps against the back of it, will really muffle the sound of the sub. Glad to hear you checked out SoundDomain. The Image Dynamics sub is supposed to be excellent, but I haven't heard that one yet either. Mr. Steve is right though, it will sound quite different from the Infinity. Good luck!

peace

Mike

Yeah point it towards the rear window. What soundstream 12" did you listen to? The exact or the SPL?

Steve

I heard the SPL, it was loud. I got 1 pic of the box up right now. It is a hge file, and I just wanted to get 1 up, and I am gonna go mess with the pics now and crop them and convert them into JPEG format, since the BMP are huge. But here's the link to the pic:
http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1105850&a=8127624&p=34911576&Sequence=0&res=high

Well, that pic sucks, I will get another one on in a few minutes, a better one. I wil mess with it real quick to try and get it smaller. Be back in a little bit.

Ok, me again, here's another, from the rear of the explorer. The sub would go on the driver's side. This one's a little smaller. But still sort of a big file, sorry, I have to upload all the images, then save them to the hardrive from the net and then save as a JPEG. It will take a while, actually I need ot go do some project for school, so I won't have these donew until tomorrow. HEre's the link to the pic:

http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1105850&a=10343594&p=34912896&Sequence=0

Sorry,me again, here's the last link, this one is to my album on photopoint. I will soon have some pics of my amps and my tweeter location, although I should take a better pic of the tweet, it is sort of dark, just like the front pic of my truck. Oh well. Tell me whta you guys think about the pics and my box and all. Thanks http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=1105850&a=10343594

Hey my cargo cover broke today. The driverside plastic thingy cracked and it's too shattered to be fixed. It seems like that box is gonna be too high for you to use the cargo cover. Do you still have yours? I would be willing to take it off you hands if you no longer have use for it. Let me know.

Steve

I never had one, didn't come with it. I would if I had one though. Sorry, you could always check out ebay, there are always some on there. How do you like the box? Any suggestions, besides to have the sub face the rear?

I think I remeber you saying you were going to place you amp in that box too. If that's the case think about putting fans in the box. Maybe mount them on the seat side of the box. Have one fan blowing cool air in and the other sucking warm at out. Just a thought.

Steve

Yeah I was thinking of doing that, but if I want to remove the box to haul something, then I wouldn't have any music, so that would suck. See what I was going to do was to get some of those amp racks, and paint them the same tan that I am going to wrap the box in vinyl, and have them mounted facing the rear.
