I just had a tuneup done hoping this would be solved but it still takes a good amount of cranks for my 94 explorer to actually start. It cranks fast so the batery is fine. Anyone know what might be the cause?

Try letting the key sit in the "on" position for about 3 seconds before you crank. Your fuel pump is getting old and your fuel filter may be getting clogged. Takes longer for an older fuel system to build pressure.

Wouldn't that just cause her to take 8 seconds to start? ;) :D

No, if it's the fuel system and you allow the pressure to build in the system before starting, it should start on the first crank.

if that doest clear it up, check for vacum leaks. my ranger had a bad vacum leak to the egr, which caused it to start hard and idle roughly. also, it got bad mileage during this period. if that doesnt work, try cleaning the mass airflow sensor and idle air controll valve just for the hell of it.
