Why does my car lean to one side?

My 2000 Explorer has leaned to the left since new. That's the PASSANGER side here in Australia! It leans with an empty tank too.

The first dealer I had look at it said it was in spec.
The second dealer agreed it was leaning too much (I showed them with a full tank of fuel). They took the rear leaf springs out and had then 'reset'. Under warranty of course.

Now it doesn't lean as much, and the back sits a lot higher.

There is definately something wrong. It appears all Exprorers lean - I just wish Ford would admit it!

The rear main seal of my explorer blew last week so when i took it to the dealer to get fixed i told them about all the squeeks and rattles and i ended up geting a whole bunch of stuff ordered for it and they have had it for the past 4 days ... hopefully i will pick it up today. Well anyway i also told them about the leaning problem and i was standing under my explorer as they were talking about fixing it. There was about 10 mechanics under my truck and neither one of them had a clue. They were each pointing to differnt parts of it saying they had to tighten this loosen this and they were all disaagreeing with eachother. So i told them to fix everything but forget about the leaning problem. i do not want to be their "lab rat" to experiement screwing around with stuff.

WOW I guess my 92 ain't so bad. it has 185,000 on the clock and it has never leaned to the driver side, it leaned to the passenger side but that was a bent I-beam. :bounce:

I will say that add a leaved to wonders for the truck though. Rides better, tows better, does everything better. I put mine in about 2 years ago and I haven't regretted them yet.

is add-a-leafs like leaf spring supporters

No, add a leaves are just what the name says, you add a leaf to your existing spring pack. They put a new leaf in under the main leaf. You have to loosen up the u-bolts and separate the spring pack to put them on.

They put a new leaf in under the main leaf

You sure? I put mine between my overloads and the rest of the leaves. That`s what the directions said anyway. They weren`t that long, and it`s a no-no to have a shorter leaf between two longer ones.

Unless they make an add-a-leaf that is longer than the ones below the main you shouldn`t put it there.

You are right. The springs in the pack must get shorter each time, because friction is part of the spring. however, an add a leaf can go between any two springs you want just has to be cut to the right length. The closer you go to the longest spring the stiffer/stronger your pack will become, thus resuling in a different amount of "lift". Most boxed add-a-leaf's are short and go next to the overload. But when I did mine I bought it from a spring place and told them what I wanted so they told me wich springs to put it in between, and I just cut it to the length I wanted.
