why does my compass keep telling me to calibrate it?

for some reason my compass in my truck kept saying "CAL", telling me to calibrate it, so i did it, and it was fine. a few days later, i look up at it, and it says "CAL" again. i live in northern NJ, but i frequently go to philadelphia which is in the next "zone" in the manual, so this time i calibrated it for the NJ zone (the other times i had done it for the PA zone.) could that be the problem? i guess ill find out in the next week or 2 - if i see "CAL" up there again.

Going from NJ to Philly shouldn't be the problem. I drove mine from Ohio to Arizona, crossing several zones in the process. Not once did mine ever say to calibrate it. I did calibrate it once I got to my final destination, but not because it said to.

well, at my job, i spend a decent amount of the day hanging out in my truck, doing my paperwork, but i have the accessories on to listen to the radio, i dunno if that has anything to do with it. i guess ill just have to wait, and if it does it again, i start poking around in the compass system - at least its nothing major, heh.

If you have anything magnetic near it, that would knock it out of whack.

nope. i dunno whats going on. it only started doing it since i moved to NJ, heh. im hoping when i move to long island in 5 months, itll stop.

YEAH! i got an ezpass when i moved to NJ. could that be it? id try to mount the ezpass tage somewhere else, but theres really nowhere else to mount it, heh.

My '95 got stuck in cal mode. I followed the cal procedure by finding a parking lot and driving around in a circle a couple of times to fix it.

yeah, thats how you calibrate it. i do that every few weeks, heh.
