Please Answer: Why is my Stock 01 Sport have such a rough ride??

Ok why does my 01 Sport have such a rough hard ride. It really bothers me. Could it be the shocks? I go over the little bumpy things that slipt the lanes and I feel I'm going to die. Its SO rough. I dont think I need new shocks, I only have 54,000 miles on it. Would new shocks help though? Like some bilsteins or something. I also tried lowering the tire pressure a bit but it didnt help. Can anyone explain to me why my ride is so rough?

Sports are a shorter wheel base giving them a much more stiff and bumpy ride, but if you say its really bad it could just be your shocks.

Yea I knew that they had a shortwheel base but I dont think that the wheelbase could be the reason that its this bad. I gad a ranger before this that had a short wheelbase also and it was TONS times better.

You'd be surprised, it definitely could be the shocks.

Check your air pressure in the tires.....Today I took 10psi out of all 4.....makes a world of difference..It also seems that after I put on 15 x 8 rims..the ride became smoother..Heck..I know it did.......I have no fear of running my 31.5 x15 tires at 25 pounds around town or on short 20...mile runs..after a few miles the air pressure is back up to normal after the tires heat up and the air expands!!! Who gives a rip about the fuel mileage..whats 2-3 mile loss per tank full. :p .......don't get **** retentive about the fuel cost :D ...just enjoy the smoother ride!!

P.S. Always run your tires at the normal air pressure if you do a lot of long distance or high speed driving. The improper inflation could possibly damage tires.

DO you have the 235/75/15 Wranglers's? If so check your tires, I just replaced mine with the Firestone Destination Le's and a world of difference.

I also did do some suspension work. (upper/lower Control arms). I did feel the same exact thing before the work and I had it alligned. BTW I have 66k on my truck, with 30k on the old GY Wranglers.

If you've got the OEM shocks on it still, you've needed shocks for about 40,000 miles. I guarantee that will be the single best thing you can do to improve the ride quality. Don't skimp on the either.... when it comes to shocks, you get what you pay for.

Bilsteins, Rancho RSXs, Konis to name a few. Avoid Gabriel and Monroe's low-end stuff.

Wow thanks everyone. So it does sound like the shocks. I have been wanting some bilsteins anyway for the longest time. haha. I will check the tire pressure also lower it just a bit more. And yes I have the wranglers and I'm sure that I'll be buying a different tire other than those when the tread gets low. haha.
