why is it that i always see people buying the black rock crawlers almost a year after they bought a nice set of aluminum wheels, seems like you people dont like aluminum and switch to black crawlers later... why is that???

and do you guys with the black rockcrawlers have any problems balancing them or anything?

I bought mine cause they were inexpensive and already black. They balanced easily and are actually not much heavier than the stock cast aluminum rims (almost the same). Some good aftermarket aluminum rims would be lighter, but I wanted some that could stand up to everything I threw at them.

The black rock crwlers are easier to repair when bent off roading. I have not had any problem balancing mine.

The aluminum rims are great for street and show but just don't hold up off road. Also the Black Rock Crwlers are a lot cheaper.

Ever since joining this site, I've had this urge to go "play" in my explorer.. My rims are chrome, I don't want to worry about scratching them all to hell and then losing all their value.. The rock crawlers are cheap, and should hold up better.. That's the reason I'm getting them...

And I'm starting to go for the all black (or mostly black) look... I'm really liking it:)

i think i'll be getting them too when i get new tires.

hmmm...interesting.......soo you say i should get the crawlers instead of some eagle 589's.....well..thats what im thinking.......whenever..my car dies..and i finally start to OWN my dads ex.......still kinda both of ours now....but .....one day...one day

I agree, the Rockcrawler rims are awesome and a lot cheaper. BUT, I've noticed extensive preformance/milage loss with them. I'll confirm this when I finally throw my gears in. I do know they are heavy. I'm contemplating going with Aluminum rims and powder coating them black when I put 35s on just to help decrease some of the weight. All I know are these Rockcrawlers kick @$$, but are really heavy IMO.

if i could lift, id go with the rock crawlers, they really complete the look imo.

yo dejello, i really like the way your ex looks, i know you have the superlift 5.5" lift.. does it work well with the "33's" you have, much rub at all? cause thats all im thinking about doing just the superlift and 33's, plus what gears do you have now? and how is the power

Well thank you

The only rub I have noticed is on the right side of my sway bar up front, then again, it has "shifted" to the right for some reason, gotta get that fixed.. When I still had my valence on, I had to trim it, and that was it that I've noticed. But each explorer is different

Umm, gears.. I'm still running my stock ratio at 3.55:1.. Power's actually not bad, but it could use some help sometimes (this is street use experience, not off-road yet)
